Free current accounts with the standing order carousel

More and more banks have established the practice of making fee-free account management dependent on a minimum monthly deposit. At our three top banks in Germany, which we monitor on an ongoing basis, the minimum amount of 700 euros has been maintained for years.

ING hast increase this to 1,000 euros on 1.12.2024. A good opportunity to adjust your personal standing order transfer carousel now.

Don’t have 1,000 euros a month?

If you don’t have 1,000 euros a month (and can therefore afford even less to be charged an account management fee), simply set up two standing orders per month for 500 euros each. Together, that’s also 1,000 euros.

These are pretty good banks, so it should be worth the effort on our side – the side of smart bank customers – to continue to be a customer of several banks in the future. We don’t know which bank will be particularly good in the future and which will be less so.

More and more bureaucracy and monitoring regulations mean that it will not be easier to open good bank accounts in the future. This is a good reason to keep or, if you are not yet a customer of several banks, to open a second or third account free of charge today.

C24 Bank

Free alternative without minimum deposit

Banks that are still in the growth phase often have better offers. Their strategy is to win customers. Even if it is not (currently) profitable. One that caught our eye in a particularly positive way is C24 Bank with its permanently free current account.

In contrast to the established banks, you even get interest on your current account with C24. The current rate is 1.25 percent. The optional call money account pays 1.5 percent. You can order this when you open an account online. Free of charge!

What do you like about DKB, Comdirect or ING?

I look forward to exchanging ideas with you. My usage behavior has developed more towards Comdirect in recent months. Unfortunately, DKB has lost many of its strengths and has become too comparable and therefore interchangeable. But I’m keeping it, as it’s well established in my account system.

ING has become so cumbersome with its network of ever more security barriers that it actually rightly has its place as a reserve current account. I still value the line of credit at the bank. In my view, that is its greatest strength.

Overall, however, all 3 banks are still so good that I have not yet been able to bring myself to open the Check24 account myself. A mistake?
